Train Your Calm & Clarity
Serena Lombardi | JAN 6
We know our jobs inside out.
But do we know our mind and body just as well?
After two days of train travel to reach my family for Christmas, I arrived fatigued and agitated.
That surprised me.
I spend most of my time studying and teaching yoga and meditation, practices rooted in balance and calm.
Yet this was a reminder of how quickly our inner state can shift.
From clarity → to emotional turbulence. And when it happens, most of us don’t know how to respond.
If we want to stay calm, think clearly, and regulate our emotions, especially under pressure, research shows yoga and meditation train our ability to return to balance.
Here’s a simple practice you can try today:
Find your space
• Lie down on a mat or blanket in Savasana (corpse pose).
Scan the body
• Bring attention to your right toes
• Inhale. Scan up the right side of the body - toes to brain
• Exhale. Scan back down
• Repeat on the left side.
Observe without judgment
• Notice sensations, thoughts, emotions.
• Let them pass.
Don’t serve them tea!
This practice eases the body into deep relaxation while sharpening mind-body awareness.
With greater awareness of our mind and body, like a musician mastering their instrument, we become better at sensing when we’re out of tune, regulating our thoughts, influencing our physiological responses, and returning to calm when it matters most.
